Case Studies : Insurance Sales and Underwriting

Insurance Sales and Underwriting

About Client

The client is a national property and casualty insurance provider for individuals, families and businesses.

Issues

The client's Point-of-Sale system was unstable with frequent crashes causing large and costly business disruptions. Client required in-depth analysis and re-engineering of existing systems in order to support 25,000 users. Additionally, client requested implementation of new features in order to sell insurance endorsements in six additional states.

Approach

In line with the ARM methodology, Aaxis' initial focus was systematically resolving the highly disruptive and costly production outages. After helping the client resolve its primary need, the client requested Aaxis to execute its full range of services. Our activities included:

  • Installed and configured testing and staging environments.
  • Studied application (client and server) and documented system architecture.
  • Evaluated, recommended, and enabled load testing process.
  • Simulated production volume to identify bottlenecks.
  • Analyzed and fixed server and client inefficiencies.
  • Identified mainframe locking issues and implemented fixes.
  • Implemented changes to server-side code to eliminate deadlocks.
  • Identified SQL Server database issues and tuned database to optimize performance.
  • Identified load balancer issues and optimized load balancing.
  • Identified and fixed scalability and fault tolerance issues within network.
  • Optimized network switch configuration.
  • Optimized XP Disk Array SAN partitioning to improve I/O concurrency.
Results
  • Point-of-Sale system was stabilized to 99.9% uptime.
  • System was able to scale and support 40,000 users.
  • CTI/Telephony system response time reduced from 30 seconds to instantaneous.
  • Enabled endorsements for additional states (TX, IL, FL, GA, VA, NY)
